WEATHER: Severe thunderstorm warnings continue near Emporia; watch ongoing for Lyon, most surrounding counties until 11 pm

*Southeast Greenwood County: Flash flood warning until 2 am Saturday. Includes Fall River, Fall River State Park, Climax, Severy. *Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Osage and Wabaunsee counties: Severe thunderstorm watch until 11 pm. Main concerns are hail to 2 inches in diameter, gusts to 70 mph, isolated tornadoes. Isolated to widely scattered strong storms are possible through late evening. Stay with KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media. There isn’t a good chance of thunderstorms across the KVOE listening area for the late afternoon to late evening hours, but any storms that develop during that timetable could be severe. The Storm Prediction Center has a marginal to slight overall risk west to east across the area, with areas east of a line from Council Grove to Saffordville to Teterville in the slight risk area and areas west of that line in the marginal risk. All hazards are possible, but wind, hail and heavy rain are the main concerns. This follows an unrealized severe weather risk for area counties Thursday, in large part because of light rainfall Thursday morning. Totals ranged from 0.05 inches at the Emporia Municipal Airport to 0.50 inches in Allen. Click here for rain totals. Stay with KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media for updates. If you have rain totals from Thursday, message the Bluestem Farm and Ranch text line at 620-342-5863. After missing out on any severe weather Thursday, area counties are in a marginal to slight severe weather risk for Friday afternoon and evening. Areas north of a line from Alta Vista to Lebo to Garnett are in a slight risk, with areas south of that line — including Emporia — in a marginal risk. Wind and hail are the main issues, although an isolated tornado can’t be discounted. Non-severe thunderstorms are possible Saturday late night through Sunday, meaning possible adjustments for outdoor graduation parties with Emporia, Chase County, Eureka, Lebo, Osage City and Waverly all having commencement activities Sunday.
