Broward County Commissioners Consider Terminating Silver Airways Lease
Broward County commissioners are considering terminating the lease agreement between the county and Silver Airways at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport due to the airline’s failure to pay rent dating back to 2021. The airline has received a year’s worth of default notices citing its failure to fulfill its financial obligations. The amount owed by Silver Airways to the county has ballooned to $957,750.17, after the county applied Silver’s security deposit as credit toward the remaining amount due.
Negotiations Continue Between Silver Airways and Broward County
Silver Airways CEO Steve Rossum told the South Florida SunSentinel that negotiations between the airline and county continue. “It is our desire and expectation to reach a negotiated resolution expeditiously with the county that is fair to Silver and its employees and fair to the taxpayers of Broward County,” Rossum said. Silver Airways operates a fleet of propeller planes that fly to places like Tallahassee and the Bahamas.
The termination of the lease agreement between Broward County and Silver Airways could have significant implications for the airline’s operations at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The airline’s failure to pay rent dating back to 2021 has resulted in a ballooning debt owed to the county, which has prompted the county to consider terminating the lease agreement. Negotiations between the airline and county continue, and it remains to be seen what the outcome will be.
